Benefits to Local Communities: Equatorial Guinea

  • Number of Equatorial Guineans working for the SBM Offshore Group and subcontractors:
    • Shore base: 18
    • Offshore Floating Units: 18
  • The nationals are currently undergoing on-the-job and competency training. Once they are deemed and signed off as suitably competent, they will replace expatriate employees.

An apprenticeship training programme has been launched which has intakes each year for the next three years. This is a Mobil Equatorial Guinea initiative aimed to train apprentice technicians in the various disciplines i.e. maintenance, production, cargo and engine room. Although being led by Mobil Equatorial Guinea, SBM Offshore will be intimately involved in this programme at the recruitment phase and throughout the life cycle of the programme, as a substantial number of these nationals are earmarked to replace expatriates over the next 4 years, in line with commitments made by the client for the nationalization target. SBM Offshore will be instrumental in the on-the-job training and mentoring, once the apprentices graduate from the initial training and then move on to the unit to complete the required competency training.

  • The SBM Offshore Group uses the following local service companies: Certex, Seaweld, Panalpina, Aramark.
